We visited Chankanaab Park on a recent port of call aboard Royal Caribbean’s Rhapsody Of The Seas. If you’re in Cozumel on a cruise, this is a simple, enjoyable excursion you can take independently of the cruise line. Find the taxi stand from the International Pier; I believe the cost was $6.00 per person. Tickets can be purchased online or at the park entrance. I purchased it online, and admission is $21.oo per person, including snorkel equipment and a buffet lunch. When I arrived, I paid an additional $40.00 to scuba dive (you must be a certified diver). In addition to snorkeling/diving, the park consisted of a sea lion show and botanical gardens. Next, it was off to lunch at the included buffet. The menu featured traditional Mexican fare, was quite good, and was a fitting end to a wonderful day.
Very few people were at the park on this particular day, and when we asked why, we were told it was because of the weather. It seems cruise passengers don’t like to go snorkeling or to the beach on overcast days. So, of course, these are the best days to go! Overall, the park is a wonderful way to spend a day in Cozumel and an exceptional value! I would highly recommend this as an alternative to one of the cruise tours. Enjoy!
