During one of our cruise vacations we had the opportunity to visit St. Maarten. We had been here previously and went snorkeling and thought that this time we might go to the world-renound Maho Beach where you could watch planes land.
There were two options from the cruise line at $49.00 for a beach day or $79.00 for a catamaran cruise with a stop for swimming at Mullet Bay. We chose, as we usually do, to take an independent tour.
After disembarking the ship we approach a taxi stand and told them what we wanted. They recommended Mullet Beach which is a quieter, larger beach adjacent to Maho Beach. The cost of this trip was $16.00 per person round trip plus $15.00 for two chairs and umbrella rental making a grand total of $47.00 for two people, a substantial savings over cruise line pricing.
We were glad we chose Mullet Beach over Maho Beach as the airport beach rather small with limited seating other than the adjacent bar. We found Mullet Beach to be very relaxing and spent the entire day swimming and snorkeling. There is a large swim area right in front of the beach if you want to snorkel there is a long rocky wall to the left. If you want to snorkel I suggest walking down to the rocks and move along the rocks. It’s not the greatest snorkeling in we’ve ever done but it was alright.

Eventually the other cruise ship passengers showed up on the catamaran. Included with their trip was unlimited rum punch. When the guy found out we were also from the ship he supplied us with rum punch as well, woo hoo!! 😁😁
In addition to swimming and snorkeling you can also get a massage from one of the local ladies. Prices are between $50 and $75. They asked but were not pushy like you find on some other islands. Food is also available from local vendors. A barbecue chicken lunch was only $8.00. Burgers and hot dogs were also available. Including lunch and a tip the total cost of the entire day for two people was $66.00. Very reasonable for a full day.
When we were dropped off we arranged a pick-up time with our driver. He was returned early and was waiting for us when we were ready. Overall it was a great day and we would certainly consider the same trip again.
